HEARTLESS vandals ruined pupils' planting efforts by trashing the nursery at Torryburn Primary School last night.

The children had only recently planted seeds in the garden there but came in this morning to find pots and soil strewn across the playground.

Primary school pupils lent a hand in the clean-up efforts and headteacher Jillian Mellis said it was a shame for the children, who take such a pride in the nursery.

"It so rarely happens here," she said. "Things have been so good for so long and it breaks your heart.

"It's disappointing, especially when they've done a lot of planting and then to see these things destroyed."

However the school is determined not to let the cruel behaviour bring them down and are working hard to make things right.

"Four of the P7 pupils helped me and one of the pupil support officers to clean it up," said Mrs Mellis. "Many hands make light work!

"We posed the question what we could do to make it better and get together as a community to help.

"We've got an assembly this afternoon where we'll talk a bit about it and tell them we'll get it fixed. We want to rally everyone around and nip it in the bud.

"It's a lovely wee school, a lovely village and a wonderful place to be. We want to keep the school looking good for the children."

If anybody has information about the vandalism, please contact the school or Police Scotland on 101.
