TOE-TAPPING troupers from a Kingseat dance school are on cloud nine after taking part in a special workshop hosted by a TV dance star.

Students from On Pointe Performing Arts School got the opportunity to meet instructor and choreographer Abby Lee Miller.

Ms Miller runs her own dance school in the Unites States and stars in the hit reality show Dance Moms.

Last Tuesday, the girls took a trip to the Corn Exchange in Edinburgh, where they got to meet their idol, get photographs and take part in a special class taught by MS Miller herself.

Syrian McKenna, who runs On Pointe Performing Arts School, said it was a dream come true for everyone involved.

“It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the children and it lived up to their dreams, they were over the moon,” she said.

“Not many children from Dunfermline can say they’ve taken part in a class with Abby Lee Miller.

“I actually booked the tickets and never told the children about it.

“I organised it with the parents and told the girls just before we were going to go and they had no idea.

“Their wee faces were just amazed.

“They were hyper. They watch the programme every week and aspire to be like the girls in the programme.

“Even for me as a teacher, watching it and watching the way she teaches was just fantastic.

“I loved every minute and the children loved every minute.”

Even more exciting was when two of the On Pointe girls, Emily Cook and Ellie Robertson, made it to the final 10 for a chance to win a scholarship with Ms Miller at her studios in Los Angeles, only narrowly missing out.

“Throughout the class she was picking girls and asking them to stand on stage and go through audition techniques,” added Ms McKenna.

“For the two of them to get to the final was absolutely thrilling. I’m so proud of them.

“It was great for them to get feedback from someone so well known in the dance world. W “When they go to watch Dance Moms now, they can say: ‘We met her.’ It’s so surreal.

“She’s so inspiring to watch and the children were on cloud nine. They were in class again last week and came out buzzing.”

The girls are now concentrating on fundraising for the trip of a lifetime after qualifying recently for the lyrical dance world championships in South Africa 2017 and Ms McKenna added: “We’re trying to get donations from anyone willing to raise money for these girls and give them the opportunity to help follow their dreams.”

On Pointe will be holding a race night at Townhill Bowling Club on Friday, April 1, to help raise money. Tickets are £3.
