AN UNFINISHED 'path to nowhere' in Kingseat will soon be on the road to completion after the long-awaited £300,000 project finally got underway.

Any bemused visitors using the unfinished route would have got halfway towards Dunfermline before coming to an abrupt stop.

The shared path and cycle way was never completed due to wrangles over land ownership, but after years of hard work a deal was finally agreed.

Villagers turned out on Monday as the first piece of turf was cut and the project, funded by Sustrans, will finally see a path to somewhere!

Lochs councillor Alex Campbell has been pushing for the idea for some time and was delighted to see everybody's efforts pay off.

"It had been on the community council's agenda since before I got elected," he said.

"It's a great story as far as I'm concerned as we've worked really hard for it.

"It's been on the agenda for about five years but there were legal issues over land ownership.

"Part of the path was done at Kingseat but it couldn't go any further.

"It's been a lot of effort but all parties came together with Taylor Wimpey and the land owners to get the agreement. John Mitchell from transportation at Fife Council was fantastic in putting it together.

"It's now going to be a walking and cycle path. It's great news and I'm really pleased."
