THE ever-popular Fresh Air Festival is back in Dunfermline for 2016, promising to be bigger and better than ever.

Now in its fourth year, the free event for the whole family celebrates all the fun to be had outdoors in the town's lovely local parks.

Part town fete, sports day and music festival, there’s plenty for visitors to do, whether it's taking part in American football, skateboarding, tennis, cycling, kickboxing, football, an assault course, rugby, horse-riding or a number of other outdoor and fitness activities.

For those looking for something at a more chilled pace, visitors can also enjoy arts projects, classic cars, aeroplanes, tai chi, nature displays, story-telling and a treasure hunt among many other activities. There's also the option of simply relaxing on a picnic rug with an ice cream, taking in the live sounds from the bandstand which will include traditional wind and pipe bands and some samba drumming, as well the best of the town’s indie music scene.

New for this year, the festival has teamed up with local gala day specialists Inflatable Hire Scotland to offer a bouncy safari adventure playground, archery and laser clay pigeon shooting. It has also planned a unique art installation for the park and one of the first appearances of new local hero Andy Peachick.

Most events are free or at a very low cost so the festival is an extremely affordable family day out full of unique entertainment and fun. The public park venue is within easy reach of Dunfermline town centre and bus station, and the train stops right at the park.

Organiser Jim Stewart, of Dunfermline Central Community Council, said: "We want as many people to come along as possible to enjoy the magnificent surroundings of the public park as well as the fantastic local entertainment we are proud to offer."

The festival starts at 12noon on Saturday, May 28 in the public park in Dunfermline, and organisers are hoping to welcome along as many visitors as possible.
