WITH Kelty getting a £7 million new community centre and Cowdenbeath set to get a replacement for the Broad Street Centre, Hill of Beath Community Council feels the village is being neglected with Fife Council suggesting that its community centre could close.

The 40 plus year-old community centre could close if Fife Council has to tighten its purse strings – so do you think smaller communities are forgotten, our reporter Nicola Scrimgeour asked people in Cowdenbeath on Thursday?

"People need community centres. We're fortunate in Cardenden as we have two in the area. It's a good thing to have in a village to keep the community together."

Robert Cant, 72, Cardenden.

"Having a community centre is an important thing. It's a good meeting place and it helps community spirit. I think villages would miss them and it would be a shame if they had to close."

Hugh McCormick, 65, Lumphinnans.

"I'm from Hill of Beath and I think they need to do something about it. It's a good thing to have and they need to concentrate on smaller villages too." Martha Edmundston, 72, Hill of Beath.

"Hill of Beath always had a small community centre and I used to use it. It would certainly be a loss for the village. Little communities need something."

Robin Haddow, 63, Cowdenbeath.
