YOUNG children were making a buzz in Lochgelly by learning all about the importance of bees in a special library event.

There was a real taste of spring at Jennie Lee Library on Thursday, March 31 when Bee Buddies came along to deliver the interesting and educational programme about the importance of honey bees to our ecosystem and survival.

The fun-packed sessions gave families the opportunity to dress-up as beekeepers and enjoy some bee crafts, games and face painting.

Ann Belton, facilities and services supervisor at the Lochgelly Centre, said: "The event was thoroughly enjoyed by children and adults alike and was also very interesting and educational. The children really liked tasting the honey and pretending to be bees gathering pollen."

As part of Fife’s support of the government literacy and numeracy initiative Read Write Count, visitors to the Lochgelly Centre were also able to take part in a Bee Trail to count the bees around the centre. The lucky winners were Madison Lindsay, 11, who won a Bee Hotel and book and Bruno Cragg, 18 months, who won a bee dressing-up set.
