A TALENTED troupe of Kingseat dancers are proving they've got the moves after winning the Scottish finals of a top competition.

The girls from On Pointe beat out more than 40 other acts to win both the mixed category and the overall contest in the Dance Challenge UK event, earning the highest score of the day and qualifying for the grand finals in Blackpool this summer.

Syrian McKenna, who runs the dance school, is delighted with their achievement and believes the sky is the limit for her students.

"It's just fantastic," she said. "It seems to be a massive whirlwind rollercoaster we're on, it's just getting more and more positive.

"The competition took place in Livingston on Sunday and the girls from our team, 'The Instinct', faced some really stiff competition in the mixed category. We had girls from six years old right up to 21 and they went out and danced and were fantastic.

"They were the highest scoring group of the whole day out of every age range and got a big trophy, a bouquet of flowers and £100 which we put into our funds."

The group's achievement is just the latest success for the girls – they've already qualified for a major tournament in South Africa, been asked to open the Halloween 'Scarefest' event at Alton Towers, invited to work with Jennifer Ellison in Liverpool and even asked to perform in LA next year.

"All of these opportunities have arisen from doing these sort of competitions," said Syrian. "We've got lots of fundraising on the go because the senior girls work full-time and when they're not working, they're dancing. So the money helps them go to these opportunities and pays for equipment.

"The team morale is really lovely. It just keeps going, we're so busy and we couldn't do it without the help and support of the mums, it's great."

After their success in the Scottish finals, the girls from 'The Instinct' will compete in Blackpool's renowned Winter Gardens opera house on July 10. If successful in the grand final, not only will they win the Dance Challenge UK title and bring it home to Scotland, but they will also receive £2,500 towards equipment and their next adventures.

"We are absolutely delighted to be riding this journey together," added Syrian. "There are so many different opportunities coming up for 'The Instinct' – it's a crazy whirlwind but we're loving every minute of it!"
