FAMILIES in Abbeyview are celebrating the revamp of their community after a £17.5m million regeneration project was completed.

Fife Housing Group and its partners were joined by tenants, local councillors and Labour candidate Cara Hilton this week to mark the end of the redevelopment programme, which has seen 207 new high-quality, energy-efficient properties built across the area, including in Dunn Crescent and Inchgarvie Crescent; Tweed Street, Drum Road and Nith Street; Inchkeith Drive, Allan Crescent and Trondheim Place; Duncan Crescent; and Islay Road.

A mixture of flats, cottages, townhouses and disabled bungalows have replaced the old tenement-style flats which were demolished in 2004. The project was part of an agreement between Fife Housing Group, Fife Council and builder Persimmon Partnerships (Scotland).

Nicki Donaldson, chief executive of Fife Housing Group, said: “This development was part of our commitment, not only to providing quality, affordable homes for our tenants but also to improving the environment of the neighbourhoods.”

Colin Connell, development director for builder Persimmon Partnerships (Scotland), who also donated beautiful planters for some of the common areas, added: “We are extremely proud to be part of the regeneration project in Abbeyview. In total we will have delivered 300 much-needed new properties for both the private and affordable housing market in Dunfermline.”

After the ribbon-cutting, guests visited one of Fife Housing Group’s community cafés.
