POLICE have issued a fresh warning over fraudsters using counterfeit notes across West Fife.
More fake £50 and £20 notes have been found in circulation after previous police warnings in January, February and March this year and officers are reminding shopkeepers to be vigilant.
The scam usually works by people paying for a low-value product with fake notes of a high denomination, allowing the fraudsters to walk away with legitimate cash.
Police are appealing to shops to check high-value notes, especially when people are buying an item with a low value.
A teenager was recently detected as being responsible for six cases of the crime but police reminded shopkeepers to be vigilant and take precautions at all times.
Anyone who comes across a suspicious note should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
