KIND-HEARTED Crossford Primary pupils raised more than £260 for children in Syria by holding a Unicef ‘Day for Change’ last Tuesday.
Children went dressed in blue – Unicef’s colours – and attended a special assembly where they heard about, and got to watch, a video on the humanitarian programme’s work in the war-torn country. They also collected spare change, which was then used by all the pupils to spell out ‘Unicef’ and create the school badge.
Primary 7 teacher Helen Booth said: “We tried to emphasise that it was just ordinary children caught up in the horrible events in their country, who have had to flee at the drop of a hat.
“One of the stories was about a child who had to run out of the house just as it was being bombed and unfortunately her father was killed. It made the children realise how fortunate we are, how things can happen so quickly to other children, and what effect it has on their lives.
“They want to help other children who are less fortunate."
