TWO grieving parents will pound the streets of Edinburgh on Sunday to raise money in their daughter's memory.

Tam and Pat Cumming, of Parkneuk in Dunfermline, will be joined by friends and family in the Hairy Haggis Team Relay as they remember Louise.

The 35-year-old nursery assistant at Pittencrieff Primary School died at home on Sunday October 25 last year after a short battle with bowel cancer.

Tam, 59, said: "It's a marathon and there's 28 of us taking part – it's seven teams of four – so you all do a bit each.

"I used to run half marathons but that was years and years ago, so I'm doing what they call the 'glory run'!

"It's the final 4.4 miles and you can walk or run so I should manage that."

He continued: "All of the money raised is going to the Marie Curie nurses who made it possible for Louise to be at home with her family in her final days.

"We've already raised about £3,400 and we've got t-shirts to run in on Sunday with her picture on them.

"It was her best friend, Jillian Murphy, and her colleagues in the nursery that organised it all."

Louise was hugely popular with children, parents and staff at the school and, after her death, the family was "overwhelmed" with messages of love and support.

She had been an early years officer at Pittencrieff for 13 years and headteacher Julie Journeaux spoke of the "terrible loss" of a colleague and friend who was "much loved and will be greatly missed".

In March, more than 300 pupils took part in a charity zumbathon in her memory that raised more than £800.

Tam acknowledged: "They've been doing a lot in memory of Louise.

"The Carnegie Trust gave a wee bit at the bottom of Pittencrieff Park where, with the kids and mums, they planted daffodils and one of her colleagues made a bench which is down near the playpark. They're also going to put one at the school.

"She had a lot of friends and after the funeral we scattered her ashes at Culross and they all came back to the house for a wee blether.

"It does help and I love talking about her. It's a great comfort to know that so many people loved her too."
