DUNFERMLINE and West Fife MP Douglas Chapman paid tribute to tragic Jo Cox and insisted her murder would not prevent MPs from serving their constituents in public.

Mr Chapman said he was "stunned and upset" following the killing of the Labour MP in her West Yorkshire constituency last week.

Parliament officials contacted politicians' offices throughout the country to request they review security at local offices.

Mr Chapman said: "While security procedures have been tightened at my office in Douglas Street, it remains an open and welcoming place for any constituent who wants to visit or who needs advice.

"All MPs are public servants and it is one of the best parts of the job to get out and meet people, whether it be at galas, community events or on local streets.

"I am continuing my street surgeries with my team in Dunfermline and we'll be out in Kingseat on Friday."

He continued: "Our thoughts remain with Jo's family.

"Her legacy of compassion, engaging with the public and helping the most vulnerable has re-ignited all public servants' determination to continue representing the people to the very best of their ability."

Mr Chapman added that he was grateful to the people who sent supportive messages to MPs across the UK using the hashtag 'ThankYourMP' and on email.
