ABERDOUR'S award-winning Silver Sands beach has added another feather to its cap after receiving an impressive four-star Quality Assurance Award.

The Visit Scotland award is an upgrade for the beach, which is managed the Fife Coast and Countryside Trust in partnership with Fife Council.

Overall, Silver Sands was awarded a high score of 80 per cent, which included categories from attraction and presentation, to catering and retail.

The site was also recognised for the quality of sustainability, with energy, waste and water being among some of the categories that are being sufficiently met.

Fife Coast and Countryside Trust were also praised for maintaining the high quality of the beach.

Coastal team leader Robbie Blyth said: “The Parks, Streets and Open Spaces team have yet again carried out a great job with the ongoing grounds maintenance required, showing a real working relationship.

“Similarly, the RNLI beach lifeguards , coupled with the public toilet provision and litter maintenance have been working very hard together to ensure the cleanliness of the site.

“Nova Gambol's Sands Coffee shop is also a fantastic venue and we are very pleased it scored so highly.

“We are very proud to have received the award and this is a brilliant opportunity for the staff to be recognised for all of their hard work.

“We will keep working together to ensure such a high level of quality is maintained for all of Fife's beaches.”
