THE SNP MP for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath joined an anti-nuclear protest in Kelty on Saturday.

Roger Mullin attended the Trident No More demonstration which was organised by the Yes Kelty campaign group.

Scottish CND had called for people to demonstrate against the renewal of Trident, which was voted through in the House of Commons on Monday.

Mr Mullin said: “There is huge opposition from the Scottish people, the Scottish Government and the Scottish Parliament to Trident renewal, yet the UK Government will now forge ahead with their plans to station nuclear weapons on the Clyde for the next 50 years.

“It is madness to waste hundreds of billions of pounds on outdated nuclear weapons that we don’t want, don’t need, and could never use.

"I have campaigned all my life for a nuclear free Scotland, and yesterday’s result was bitterly disappointing.”

The Commons voted 472 to 117 to renew the Trident nuclear system based at Faslane.

With the exception of the Scottish Secretary, David Mundell, all Scottish MPs voted against the renewal.

Mr Mullin took the peace flag to Westminster to ensure that the anti-Trident message was heard loud and clear.
