A DUNFERMLINE man who abducted and threatened to kill a woman in May last year has been jailed for nearly three years.

Dale O'Leary, of 19 Headwell Avenue, Dunfermline, brandished a bottle of bleach at her before making her watch as he then poured it on himself

O'Leary appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court last Wednesday.

The 21-year-old was drinking and playing cards with friends at an address in Dunfermline on May 9 last year, before becoming violent towards them.

Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf told the court O'Leary became aggressive and shouted abuse at them.

O'Leary seized one of the complainers by the throat and repeatedly pushed him against a wall before locking him out of the property. A neighbour next door could hear shouting with a female voice screaming "get off me".

Ms Yousaf added: "(the other complainer) tried to escape him and ran downstairs. He pushed her causing her to fall down and he shouted: "Where the f*** do you think you are going?"

The complainer ran to the bathroom to try to phone the police but O'Leary stopped her from doing so.

He brandished a bottle of bleach at her before making her watch as he then poured it on himself, the court was told.

Ms Yousaf said that O'Leary had told one of the complainers that she was "going to die tonight", as he locked her inside the property.

O'Leary pushed her into the living room where he cut her with a piece of broken glass and seized her mobile phone while covering her mouth.

The complainer was taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy with multiple injuries. O'Leary was traced to, and arrested at, his mother's address at 10.45pm that evening.

Defence solicitor Chris Sneddon said: "He recognises the nature of the offence and his behaviour. He recognises he needs to be punished."

O'Leary was charged with the abduction of one complainer, for the assault of the other and for behaving in a threatening and abusive manner.

He was sentenced by Sheriff Craig McSherry to 35 months' imprisonment for his offences.
