POLICE discovered a drug stash worth more than £3,000 when they responded to a call and found someone threatening to jump off a balcony in Dunfermline.

Officers found amphetamine at the property in Abbey View after a neighbour had called the police, Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard last Wednesday.

James Moffat, 27, of 18 Abbey View, admitted that on March 26 at his address, he was concerned in the supply of amphetamine.

Fiscal depute Azrah Yousaf said a neighbour had phoned the police after hearing shouting, including: “What have I done” and “I want to live”, around 3am.

She said police “saw a person attempting to jump or threatening to jump”.

Officers then attended Moffat's property and took possession of various items.

Ms Yousaf continued: “He was found at home with 326 grammes of amphetamine with a street value of £3,260, and £489.20 was also found in his house.

“He was interviewed about the matter and said he had taken drugs himself but did not sell them. He takes speed and had bought about £150.

“He was cautioned and charged and made no reply.”

Solicitor Alexander Flett said Moffat, who appeared from custody, did not currently have a fixed address and had lost his tenancy due to rent arrears.

He added: “He told the author of the social work report that he had agreed to look after items belonging to another, which is what police suspected was going on.

“To be fair to him, the social work report refers to negative peer influences and his poor decision-making when acting with others.

“He's found the time in custody to be quite helpful and given him the opportunity to get away from the stress and pressures and the difficulty of trying to sort out accommodation of his own.

“He's aware of the potential consequences of his actions. My recommendation is to deal with this by way of a custodial sentence.”

Sheriff Craig McSherry replied: “I'm imposing a custodial sentence in any event given the quantities.”

He jailed Moffat for eight months, backdated to June 27, and ordered forfeiture of the £489.20.
