THERE have been claims that staff working at the Forth Road Bridge are facing losing their jobs.

A source, who asked to remain anonymous, said that workers employed by the previous bridge operator, the Forth Estuary Transport Authority (FETA), were being made redundant by the new operator.

They said: "Amey, who took over the operation and maintenance of the Forth Road Bridge from FETA on June 1, 2015, are set to start making FETA staff redundant.

"Previous FETA administration staff, who are local employees, are facing redundancies whilst Amey have recruited non-local administration apprentices.

"Staffing levels at the Forth Road Bridge increased dramatically when Amey moved in and took over FETA yet it is pre-existing FETA staff that are losing their jobs."

Asked to comment on the claims, a spokesperson for Amey responded: "Amey is in the process of implementing a number of initiatives to improve our overall efficiency as a business.

"Part of this includes restructuring some areas and this involves a small number of backroom support employees on the Forth bridges contract.

"Levels of service and expertise will be maintained and these changes will allow us to provide the service as efficiently as possible.

"Bridge users will see no impact on their journeys."
