FIRE crews in Dunfermline rushed to a town-centre business on Sunday evening after passers-by noted smoke coming from the building.
At least four fire engines raced to the scene after a member of the public reported seeing smoke from a building near Alari's fish and chip shop at around 8pm.
Eyewitnesses reported a smell of smoke close to the scene and a Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson confirmed that a small fire had started on the ground floor of solicitors W & AS Bruce, situated next door to the chippy.
Crews blocked the entrance to the City Hotel car park while the incident was dealt with and while Chalmers Street was closed by firefighters for a short time, the fire was put out quickly.
The spokesperson said that crews responded to a call at 7.38pm to attend a small fire on the ground floor of a solicitors' in Chalmers Street, adding: "The fire was extinguished by around 8pm but the property was full of smoke. The premises was fully ventilated and our crews were away from the scene by 9pm."
Fire chiefs were unable to confirm what had caused the fire but a spokesman for Police Scotland said they were "following a positive line of enquiry" regarding the incident.
