A DUNFERMLINE man has been jailed for two years and banned from driving for 10 years after a sheriff lost patience with his "complete defiance" of court orders.

Callum Welsh, 26, of Allan Crescent, was caught driving while disqualified on three occasions and Sheriff Craig McSherry said he was of the view that there was no sentence appropriate other than a custodial one.

He appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Wednesday having earlier admitted a string of driving offences.

He drove while disqualified and without insurance on Allan Crescent, Dunfermline on August 31 when he also broke an existing bail condition which had ordered him not to drive any vehicle.

Welsh also drove while disqualified and without insurance or MOT certificate on Allan Crescent on July 18 and drove while disqualified and without insurance on June 1 at Tesco in Winterthur Lane, Dunfermline. He also admitted stealing a quantity of fuel from the Tesco store on the same date.

Solicitor Stephen Morrison said his client had spent 28 days in custody already as a result of the offences and urged Sheriff McSherry to consider offering him a chance in the hope this time in custody had made him learn his lesson.

He said on one of the occasions, he had moved his girlfriend's car because she was not available and it required moving so an ambulance could get to a neighbour's house.

Before sentencing, Sheriff McSherry said the charges were "some of the worst instances of complete defiance of court orders" that he had seen.

"In the circumstances, I am of the view that there is no sentence other than a custodial sentence appropriate to make the court's displeasure known," he added.
