A POIGNANT ceremony to remember fallen soldiers will begin on Wednesday October 26 at the Garden of Heroes in Dunfermline.

The launch celebrates the start of an event held by the British Legion to commemorate Remembrance Day through to November by placing poppies, crosses and other symbols in the memorial garden.

Councillor Helen Law, chair of the City of Dunfermline area committee, said: “The Garden for Heroes is a very special place for many people.

"It’s fitting that it will be used by the British Legion Dunfermline Branch so that anyone wishing to purchase a wooden cross has the opportunity to do so locally.”

Richard Dale, chairman of the Dunfermline British Legion branch, added: “We’re delighted to bring this event to Dunfermline’s Garden for Heroes in memory of our brave servicemen and women – past and present.

"It’s hoped that we will raise a large sum of money for Poppy Scotland who provide vital support for the Armed Forces community.”

Crosses and poppies will be able to be purchased from a pop-up with the garden at the East Gate, just off St Margaret's Street from 10am to 3pm daily.

All proceeds will be going to Poppy Scotland and crosses will remain in the garden until after Remembrance Day.
