DUNFERMLINE and West Fife MP Douglas Chapman is expecting the 'Killer Clown' craze to pass soon.

Two 12-year-old boys allegedly targeted passers-by in the Glen as the craze hit Dunfermline last Monday.

The boys wore clown masks and allegedly threatened and intimidated people in Pittencrieff Park.

The Dunfermline MP believes this latest internet sensation will soon die down and that he is hoping for another incident-free Halloween this year.

Mr Chapman said: "With Halloween approaching, plenty of young and not-so-young West Fifers will be getting into costumes of all sorts to enjoy parties in the right spirit with no trouble whatsoever, just like every other year. And as with most supposed 'crazes', this one will pass soon."

A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed last week that the boys involved in the behaviour at the Glen had been charged: "Two 12-year-old boys have been charged in connection with threatening and intimidating behaviour while within Pittencrieff Park, Dunfermline on Monday 10th October.

"The pair will be reported to the Children's Reporter."

Responding to the incident, the Dunfermline and West Fife MP said: "I don't know the details about this incident, other than what was reported in the Press, so it would be wrong to comment on it while it's being investigated. I think more generally that the issue is about the potential for threatening behaviour to members of the public."

The national 'killer clown' craze has seen a spate of incidents across the country involving pranksters or criminals dressed as clowns trying to scare bystanders.

The culprits are said to be following a trend that started in the US in late summer.
