A Dunfermline drink-driver who couldn't even remember getting behind the wheel was found to be seven times over the legal limit.

Sheriff Craig McSherry told Wendy Sturch it was "one of the highest readings I've ever encountered" and he banned her from the roads for two years at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

The 41-year-old, of Grange Wynd, was stopped by police after she had been reported to be driving in an erratic manner.

Sturch admitted that on September 18 she drove on Queensferry Road in Dunfermline after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in her breath was 159 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is set at 22 microgrammes.

Depute fiscal Kiran Uppal told the court that Sturch was breathalysed by police after being spotted driving in an erratic manner at 4.20pm.

Defence solicitor James Moncrieff said that his client had longstanding difficulties with alcohol and that she had been "taking steps to address that" and was "embarrassed" by her actions.

Sheriff McSherry said: "It's one of the highest readings I've ever encountered. And it's concerning you can't even remember driving the car in the state you were in."

He imposed a restriction of liberty order of six months and disqualified her from holding or obtaining a driving licence for two years.
