A Dunfermline man who drove his car on the wrong side of the road towards police was found to be almost five times over the limit.

Jason Brodie, 27, of Corbett Place, got behind the wheel after watching football in the pub on the day of the Old Firm match between Celtic and Rangers.

He admitted that on September 10 in Evershed Drive, Dunfermline, he drove a car without care and attention and travelled on the opposing carriageway when it was not safe to do so.

He also pleaded guilty to driving in Evershed Drive and Menteith Drive having consumed excess alcohol.

His reading was 109 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit is 22 microgrammes.

Depute fiscal Alex Piper told Dunfermline Sheriff Court that at around 7.30pm police were on mobile patrol when they saw a blue BMW being driven towards them on the wrong side of the road.

The car made off and the registration number was traced to the address of Brodie’s mother.

“When officers spoke to the accused’s mother she said he’d driven to the pub to watch football earlier in the day,” continued the depute.

“While they were speaking to her, the accused turned up and was clearly inebriated.”

Defence solicitor Abbie McMurtrie said, “He’d driven to the pub to watch football. He walked home but went back to collect the vehicle. "He required it for the next day and didn’t feel he was over the limit.

“He thought he would be fit to drive. He moved into the middle of the road to avoid speed bumps.

“He is extremely apologetic about his actions and puts it down to stupidity.”

Sheriff Michael Fletcher fined Brodie £800 and disqualified him from driving for two years.
