YOU MAY have just noticed that a child's heartfelt Christmas letter to his daddy that was found in a Dunfermline field on Monday, has been causing quite a teary response from people not just in the UK but across the world.

The heartfelt wishlist told of how much they were missing their daddy in heaven and how they dreamed that he could leave them a note under their pillow.

The story that was broken by the Press on Tuesday has now sparked a nationwide search for the youngster to help them get their dream presents, including a Real Madrid football kit.

It's really pulled on the heart strings of many, including Gary Lineker and Stan Collymore who've retweeted the story. There has been over 200,000 pageviews, 50,000 people reached on Facebook and 3,000 shares on social media just on the Press' website alone.

This made me cry. https://t.co/ocxlo4y4YB

The Press is still on the search in hopes of finding the child and have been in  touch with many different fostering authorities across Fife and Scotland.

Sara Lurie, Director of the Fostering Newtwork in Scotland, told the press: "This is really heartbreaking but this child's carers will do doing all they can to help them with their loss.

"It's unlikely that we will be able to identify the child unless their carer comes forward but this is just one story of many foster kids.

"In Scotland alone there are 5,000 kids in care who all have touching stories."

Stuart McColl, who found the letter at Balmule House, north of Townhill, made it his mission to find the child and help them get their dream presents for Christmas.

He told the Press on Tuesday: "This was just too sad to ignore. I've never done anything like this before but it's a really tragic story so it would be great to do something to help this person who is having such a tough time."

Stuart will be setting up a donation page for charity Child Bereavement UK.

In their letter, the child wrote:

"Hi dad, just writing you a letter to tell you I'm missing you and tell you news!

"I'm sure you know I'm in foster care cause mom is sick and my ear is blocked from Monday.

"Tomorrow we're leaving.

"I really miss school and you. I know are up in heaven but are you safe?

"Oh ya before I go here's my dream and xmas list.

"My dream is for you my daddy to put under my pillow that you wrote.

"My xmas list: boots/studs, Astros, rebounder net, new Premier League ball, Real Madrid kit

"Bye daddy I love you."

Crowdfunder have set up a page called 'The Christmas List' page yesterday (Thursday) to raise the cash needed for the mystery child's list and it's already nearly reached it's target.

Internationally, a newspaper in Spain told the Press that they would donate the Real Madrid kit and get the team to sign it - a dream come true for the child.

This has proved to be an incredibly uplifting story that shows human nature at it's best.

The generosity of people all over the world including; Canada, America, Portugal and Spain, has been very moving.

If you might know who wrote the letter please get in touch with the Press via Facebook or by emailing editorial@dunfermlinepress.co.uk.
