ANYONE suffering a cardiac arrest in Cairneyhill now has a better chance of survival after life-saving equipment has been put in place.

A portable defibrillator is now mounted on the wall at Cairneyhill Scout hut to help in the event of an emergency.

Explorer Scout leader Callum Farquhar told the Press: “We got it in the summer but it has taken a while to get it fixed to the outside of the building. With it being a community sports hub, there are sports going on and we didn’t have a defibrillator. There are also old folk about the village so it is good to have it there.

“The ambulance service knows if someone phones from the village and can tell people to get it.”

The 83rd (Fife) Cairneyhill Group paid for the device after receiving a grant for half of it from the British Heart Foundation and members and leaders of the Scout group are being trained on its use.

“We do first aid training all the time and the leaders have to have valid first aid certificates at all times and courses are run in the Dunfermline area three, four or five times a year,” he added.

The Press Take Heart campaign resulted in three Public Access Defibrillators being installed recently in Dunfermline’s Kingsgate Shopping Centre, the Guildhall and Linen Exchange and the City Hotel.
