Several centimetres of snow is expected to fall on West Fife by early evening following severe weather warnings.
The combination of gale force winds of up to 65 mph and sleet will make driving conditions very tricky and longer travel times are to be expected.
Major routes in West Fife were brought to a standstill this morning after a lorry was blown over in high winds on the Forth Road Bridge.
A yellow warning for snow by the Met Office will no doubt only frustrate commuters more.
Tonight temperatures will drop to minus figures and further snow is expected until Saturday.
The Forth Road Bridge is still closed in both directions but efforts are continuing to partly reopen the bridge by the evening rush hour.
