PARISHIONERS and a priest were pelted with eggs and suffered sectarian abuse as they attended a Rosyth church on Tuesday night.

St John and St Columba’s Church on Admiralty Road posted on their Facebook page that church-goers had been subjected to the anti-social behaviour by a group of youths.

The incident has sparked outrage on social media.

The post stated: “The joy of today’s society. About 10 or so kids aged around 12 decided to throw raw eggs this evening at St John & Columba’s Church, just as parishioners were arriving for Mass. End result: parishioners and priest included, sectarian abuse delivered and a church with rotten egg on it, and a bunch of kids that can get away with it because that’s the way they have been raised by their parents.”

A further comment from the page said: “If it is not dog mess at the gates, then it’s a Buckfast bottle thrown at the church.”

Rosyth councillor Sharon Wilson responded to the status after being alerted to the incident by Inverkeithing and Dalgety Bay councillor Alice McGarry.

Councillor Wilson said: “Lots of bad behaviour in Rosyth recently hence my bringing it up to police at the South West Fife area committee.”

Andy Holland was left disgusted after hearing of the event and commented on the page: “Disgusting. Hate crime must be reported to Police Scotland no matter what form it takes. Hopefully, the youths concerned are caught and made to make good any damage and a bit of hard work in the church grounds.”
