THE children's pool at Carnegie Leisure Centre has been closed indefinitely as repair work is carried out.
Following a routine inspection of the pool, some tile "movement" was detected in the basin and the pool was closed and emptied as a precaution.
Ken Gourlay, head of assets, transportation and environment, told the Press: “We are currently investigating why some tiles have lifted in the junior pool and the extent of the repair works that will be required.
"Once we know this, we’ll be in a better position to estimate how long the pool will be closed for.
“Planned repair work was already due to start in the next few weeks to the junior pool channel though and it is hoped that any works to the tiles will be incorporated into the one closure.”
The centre is run by the Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, on behalf of Fife Council.
James Dunbar, area leisure manager for the trust, stated that alternative swimming facilities were available until the junior pool reopened.
He said: “Whilst the works are undertaken to the junior pool by Fife Council, the trust will minimise customer disruption by providing an alternative access route from the wet-side changing rooms to the main swimming pool.
"Customers and children who use the junior pool will be able to access the training pool, which can accommodate junior pool activity at selected times.
"We would encourage customers to visit our website for further updates and we apologise for any inconvenience.”
