A CARDENDEN woman who suffers from mental health problems became violent towards emergency staff on several occasions, Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday.

Michelle Morgan, 34, of Cardenden Road, previously admitted that on July 26, 2014, at Victoria Hospital, she did behave in a threatening or abusive manner which was likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear and alarm in that she did repeatedly shout, swear and threaten to harm herself. She also admitted that on July 27, 2014, at Dunfermline Police Station, she assaulted a police officer in the execution of their duty and did spit on them.

Depute fiscal, Dev Kapadia, said: "Ms Morgan was a patient in ward two of Victoria Hospital receiving treatment for a personality disorder which makes her unstable and violent.

"When she was outside having a cigarette she had a confrontation with another patient and staff brought her back inside. The accused became frustrated and when colleagues attempted to restrain her, she spat on the neck of a member of staff.

"She then assaulted the same staff member by kicking her several times and managed to bend their fingers back. She also assaulted a police officer who attended."

On a separate occasion police received a call from a female to say she had self-harmed but did not want a ambulance. Emergency services went to the address and treated her, but once at Victoria Hospital Morgan continued to make treats of self-harm.

She was taken to Dunfermline Police Station and when a officer searched the accused, she became agitated and frustrated, and spat at the police employee.

Defence solicitor, Roshni Joshi, said progress had been made by her client since she was detained under the mental health act.

"She understands the link between her mental health and substance abuse and there has been a marked improvement since services were addressed," she said.

"Ms Morgan is described as being in the high end of the spectrum of a personality disorder and appears to be motivated to making changes.

"I'm making a plea for this matter to be admonished. I know the court will have some difficulty with this but I have significant concern for Ms Morgan if she were to receive a custodial sentence."

Sheriff Craig McSherry said there has been substantial improvement to Morgan's behaviour and admonished the matter.
