POOR weather has held back efforts to find a missing Dunfermline teenager.

Ralphie Smith, 18, who attends Woodmill High School, is presumed dead after falling from Arbroath cliffs around 1pm on February 25 during a family walk.

Police called off their rescue efforts after a week but volunteers from the UK Civil Air Patrol (UKCAPS) have continued to search.

UKCAPS were scheduled to make further searches over the weekend but strong winds and low cloud held back their efforts.

Norman Sutherland, depute unit chief pilot for UKCAPS, said: “We only managed to get one aircraft up on Sunday because of the bad weather.

“The aircraft is light so it can be dangerous, we did manage to make more searches on Saturday though.

“As long as Ralphie’s family want to keep looking for him we will continue to search, so we continue to fly and carry out multiple searches.

“We want to try and bring closure to this family.”
