THIS year’s Fresh Air Festival in Dunfermline’s Public Park promises to be bigger and better than ever.

The free event runs from noon to 5pm on Saturday, May 27 with everything from American football and kick boxing to fire juggling and chainsaw sculptures.

Part town fete, sports day and music festival, there’s also classic cars, pipe bands, a bouncy safari adventure playground and tai-chi.

Organiser Jim Stewart, from Central Dunfermline Community Council, said: “We want as many people to come along as possible to enjoy the magnificent surroundings of the Public Park as well as the fantastic local entertainment we are proud to offer.

“A giant bear and chicken running around in a mix of sports, music, airplanes, cars and horses – where else can it possibly be?”

The entertainment includes skateboarding, tennis, archery, clay pigeon shooting, cycling, football, an assault course, climbing wall, rugby and horse riding.

New for this year will be taster sessions in walking football and visitors can also enjoy arts projects, classic airplanes, fire engines, balloon sculptures, birds of prey, face-painting, story-telling and a treasure hunt.

And there’s the option of simply enjoying a picnic in the park while wind and pipe bands, a fantastic choir and the town’s best indie acts perform at the bandstand.

The festival, to be opened by Jim Leishman, is a not-for-profit event organised by the community council and supported by Fife Council and local business sponsors.
