A KELTY man who drove while nearly three times over the limit was stopped after police spotted him driving too slowly.
Matthew Butler, 58, of Keltyhill Road, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline after earlier admitting driving on Cocklaw Street, Kelty, on January 29 after consuming alcohol with the proportion 60 microgrammes in 100 millilitres of breath when the legal limit is 22 microgrammes. He also admitted driving without insurance.
Depute fiscal Dev Kapadia said Butler was stopped by police officers after they had seen him driving extremely slowly at twenty minutes past midnight.
“They subsequently spoke to him and it became immediately apparent that the accused was under the influence of alcohol,” he added.
Defence solicitor Russell McPhate said his client accepted full responsibility for his actions.
“It appears to have been a spur-of-the-moment decision,” he added.
“He knew his niece’s keys had been handed in behind the bar and realised her car keys were on them and decided to drive home.”
Sheriff Christopher Shead sentenced Butler to a community payback order with supervision for 12 months and a requirement to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work within six months. He was also banned from driving for three years.
