A YOUNG woman mixed prescription drugs with vodka and fell asleep – leaving a pizza to burn in the oven.

On Thursday, Amanda Gilbert admitted shouting, swearing and struggling violently with police officers at her former home address in Devonside's Hillside on Christmas Eve last year.

Fiscal depute Susannah Hutchison told Alloa Sheriff Court that a witness turned up at around 9.45pm to drop off presents, but found the house filled with smoke and the 22-year-old accused lying slumped on the sofa.

Emergency services arrived, to which Gilbert explained that she'd popped a pizza in the oven but had fallen asleep.

The accused, who was described as being extremely intoxicated, was assessed by paramedics for smoke inhalation.

She then became highly agitated when told she was going to be arrested. When eventually taken to Falkirk Police Station, she apologised for her earlier actions.

Gilbert also pleaded guilty to breaking set bail conditions by speaking to a man she was prohibited from contacting at Tillicoultry's Red Lion Inn on Hogmanay last year.

Defending, Jim Savage explained that the accused's father had died and she had not been coping well.

On Christmas Eve, Gilbert's mother had spoken to her a few hours before the incident and she had been sober at that stage. However, after mixing prescription medication with vodka it all went downhill from there.

The Criminal Justice Social Work report was said to highlight that Gilbert was highly vulnerable at the time of the two offences.

Mr Savage noted that the accused had spent three weeks in custody for breaking bail on December 31, but had since engaged with the services on offer for help.

Sheriff James Macdonald deferred the case until November 9 for the accused's good behaviour.

If Gilbert, now of Demondale Road in Arbroath, stays out of trouble she will most likely be admonished.
