A Dunfermline restaurant has had to shut its doors for a few weeks following a fire at the property last Saturday.

Fire crews rushed to tackle the blaze at Ashiq’s on Bridge Street after a fire was detected in the kitchen’s extractor fan just before midday.

Nobody was injured in the incident and the restaurant's Facebook page confirmed that all their staff were well.

Two crews from Dunfermline Fire Station first attended the scene, but four more crews had to rush to the scene later when the fire extended.

The blaze was eventually extinguished at 2pm but the road remained closed all afternoon as fire crews stayed to make the area safe.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue service spokesman said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 11.46am on Saturday, May 20, to reports of a fire in a commercial building at Bridge St, Dunfermline.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two high powered hoses to extinguish the flames.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
