DUNFERMLINE is bursting with an array of authors, according to a survey released by Amazon today.

It has been named sixth in the top ten of Scottish hotspots for the number of independent writers who publish their work through Kindle Direct Publishing.

Falkirk topped the table with only Ayr, Edinburgh, Motherwell and Glasgow finishing higher. Kirkcaldy, Kilmarnock, Aberdeen and Dundee complete the top ten.

The research was carried out after an Amazon Academy event in Edinburgh which was attended by scores of aspiring and established authors.

Orna Ross, Founder of Alliance of Independent Authors, said digital publishing means writers today can take creative control and publish their books to a global audience as never before.

"Amazon Academy has been a great opportunity to find out more about producing and selling books using Amazon’s first-class independent-publishing programmes," she said.

"It’s also a place to learn what’s new, ask questions, meet the people behind the programmes, and hear from other writers about what it takes to run a successful indie author business. Feedback from our members has been overwhelmingly positive."

Kindle Direct Publishing is a programme that allows authors to get their work to a potential audience of millions of readers both digitally and in print.

It enables authors to retain their copyrights, keep control, distribute globally, get to market fast and do it for free.
