BUDDING storytellers from across West Fife gathered at a literacy festival at Cairneyhill Primary School last week.

Around 300 Primary 7s from Blairhall, Inzievar, Saline, Cairneyhill, Crossford, Pittencrieff, Milesmark, McLean and Townhill primary schools took part in the book-themed Queen Anne High cluster event.

They were inspired and entertained by Scottish author Lari Don, who read from her books and encouraged children to share story ideas with their audience.

Children also took part in a literacy treasure hunt and a workshop run by Edinburgh-based comic illustrator Edward Ross, who shared tips and helped pupils create their own characters.

Cairneyhill Primary School headteacher Fiona Hall said the day was a great success.

“All the children had a great time mixing with their peers across the cluster as well as having fun with literacy,” she said. “The children’s feedback showed they learned lots from Lari and Edward, which has given them ideas and confidence in creating their own stories and characters.

“We decided to host this event to allow the P7s to come together as part of their transition to high school and to encourage and motivate them to engage in literacy, reading, writing and illustrating.”
