Fife Council have said that this video proves that the cladding on all their tower blocks is fire safe.

The authority has been reassuring residents stating that they have categorically not used the same over cladding system as used in the Grenfell flats that caused disaster for its tenants.

The over cladding used on the flats in London has been blamed for the reason the fire spread so quickly, killing 79 people and leaving hundreds homeless.

Fife Council have used Rockwool or phenolic boards to insulate external walls on high rise flats and the materials are shown on the left and middle of this demonstration. They do not burn even if a fire is set below them.

Multi-storey blocks in Broomhead Drive in Dunfermline were clad only last year along with others across Fife, but now the council have started a 12-week exercise reviewing the fire safety of these buildings.

In the week ahead the local authority has promised to send a letter to all affected tenants.

Housing management officers will visit each tenant in a high rise block as well as the fire service.

The review group will hold inspections of cladding and health and safety procedures and meetings will be held with all affected tenant and resident groups.

Dry risers will be also be rechecked to ensure they are fully operational.

Low-rise flats and other council houses will be included later in the review.

Head of Housing Services, John Mills, said: “The review group has been set up to discover if there are any health and safety improvements the council can make to further reassure tenants in Fife’s multi-storey blocks.

"And we will be writing to all affected tenants this week to explain the steps we’re taking."
