MORE THAN 360 people made up 26 teams to walk 24 hours and raise £70,000 for Cancer Research at Dalgety Bay's Relay for Life on Saturday.

David Quinn, chairman of the Dalgety Bay Relay for Life group, said: "We still have some more cash to come so I think we will achieve our £80,000 benchmark.

"The end seemed in sight for everyone when the music started again at 8am and the bacon rolls were out! All of the teams crossed the finished line at 10am. We had a silent disco through the night powered by a DJ for eight hours but it always catches you by surprise when you see someone dancing like a lunatic in the middle of the night wondering what on earth they're doing!"

This year's candle of hope ceremony focused on what it's like to care for someone with cancer before breaking for a minute's silence. The teams were welcomed back on the track again by a piper playing Amazing Grace.

David added: "Relay for Life is a team experience and its creates a special bond. The survivors who attended were provided with a lunch from Louie Browns and Heavenly Goodies and they all said they were treated like VIPs but their real heroes were the people on the track. Without relay volunteers the survivors would not be here."
