DUNFERMLINE Advice Hub has been transformed into a 1940s vintage paradise ahead of the this summer’s Defend Dunfermline WWII Festival.

Fife’s newest festival will see exhibitions, street theatre and music events retell the fascinating story of the allied Polish armies and Dunfermline’s Home Guard during the Second World War.

The shopfront on Douglas Street looks like you’ve stepped back in time and is doing a sterling job advertising the event that takes place on August 19 and 20.

The festival weekend will feature The Fly Right Dance Company who will be performing and teaching 1940s dance moves ready for a vintage Tea Dance at the Glen Pavilion. You will also spot re-enactment groups from across the UK, such as Homefront Histories, who will be roaming the streets of Dunfermline along with a number of classic vehicles.

Roger Pickering, director of Forth Pilgrim who is organising the festival, said: “The festival is progressing well and we’re receiving positive responses from Fife’s communities so far. We’ve been overwhelmed at the number of stories surrounding World War Two that are coming out of the project.

“We’ll be running an oral history group across the weekend and we hope to pick up more thoughts.”

The festival programme will be released in the last week of July across Facebook and Twitter or, alternatively, can be found at defenddunfermlineww2.co.uk.
