ABERDOUR Festival is set for glitz and glamour this year as Aberdour Does Strictly waltzes into the village.

The 34th year of the 10-day packed programme of events starts on Friday, July 28, and is all set to be its biggest yet.

All ages and interests are covered with music, dance, sport, literature and visual arts all on offer.

Comedy is served up by Rick Molland, Vladimir McTavish and Ray Bradshaw, with various music nights throughout.

Magic will be provided by Cammy Young with teams urged to enter the raft race on Beach Day with a £100 jackpot up for grabs.

Helen Pearson, chair, said that this year’s calendar is already gaining substantial interest as they look to better 2016’s success.

“It’s so diverse this year,” she told the Press.

“Each year we have more and more people coming forward looking to help. The joy of this festival is the community involvement and wanting to better the last one. We have 12 committee members and nearly 100 volunteers who make it what it is.”

The Aberdour Arts Exhibition kicks things off on Friday, 28, with the Gala Day following on the Saturday as this year’s royal party is crowned.

Helen continued: “We’re all looking forward to Aberdour Does Strictly on the Tuesday night (August, 3). There will be glitz and glamour with so much going on, ranging from demonstration and tuition, to a competition for the more advanced dancers. It’s going to be a lot of fun! There’s also prizes for best glam, glitz and bling!”

“Sing-a-long-a-Grease at Aberdour Primary School is another one we’ve had a lot of interest for.

"Katie Brown, who’s been a committee member and now volunteer for years, is going to transform the school into our very own Rydell High! She’s got lots of ideas and she’s exactly the type of person who will make it a huge success. It fits her perfectly!”

The Village Market and Fun takes place between 11am and 4pm on Sunday, July 30, at the festival marquee and tented village at Silver Sands playing fields.

Beach Day is Saturday, August 5, with a variety of prizes up for grabs.
