BREXIT is set to create a “perfect storm” that Fife firms will have to find their way through in the years to come.

The president of Fife Chamber of Commerce, Peter Southcott, sounded a warning note but was “optimistic” that they would prevail.

Discussing the current business environment in Fife, Scotland and the UK, he said: “Brexit, the weak economy and continued political turmoil are set to generate a perfect storm that Fife businesses will have to navigate in the upcoming years.

“But Fife Chamber has a clear sense of purpose and is in a strong position to help its members and local partners in these challenges.

“We have expanded our membership, improved our account management, listened to the needs and wants of our members and invested in our organisation wisely.”

Mr Southcott, speaking at the President’s Lunch in St Andrews last week, added: “Whilst no business will be immune from the challenges ahead, the Fife business community is resilient, resourceful and reactive.

“I am optimistic that by working closely with each other, this chamber and our partner chambers, Fife businesses will prevail.”
