A FEMALE drug addict with a "lengthy record" has been given an 18 month supervision order after shoplifting in Debenhams.

On two separate occasions, Alison McKenzie-Ross stole make-up and perfume from the store in the Kingsgate Shopping Centre in Dunfermline.

Defence solicitor Sarah Meehan told Dunfermline Sheriff Court last Wednesday that her client was extremely anxious at the thought of going to prison.

McKenzie-Ross, 51, of St Mary's Place, Kirkcaldy, previously admitted that on May 24 at Debenhams, she did steal a quantity of perfume and on September 30, 2016, at the same premises, she did steal a quantity of cosmetics.

Ms Meehan added: "It is fair to say that her drug addiction is not as chronic as before. She has been in a seven year violent relationship.

"However, she appreciates the seriousness of the offences and that she has a lengthy record."

Sheriff Derek Reekie told McKenzie-Ross: "You clearly have a problem that needs addressed but you seem to be doing something about it and I am told custody will not stop your problem."

She was placed on an 18 month supervision order with an additional offender's supervision requirement and she will be have to appear in court for a review on October 18.
