A FATHER was so overcome by grief he threw bottles at the Dunfermline home his late daughter died in.

Stuart Russell's actions smashed a window and injured a man and woman who were sleeping in the property.

The 42-year-old, of Canongate, Edinburgh, previously admitted that on May 29, at Ochil Terrace, Dunfermline, he culpably, recklessly and repeatedly threw bottles at a window.

By doing so he caused the windows and bottles to smash and glass shards struck the man and woman, all to their injury.

Depute fiscal Jade Doig told Dunfermline Sheriff Court: "The complainers were friends of Mr Russell's late daughter.

"It appears that the accused was outside the property at about 5pm and there were people who were sleeping in the home.

"When they opened the curtains a Buckfast bottle was thrown at the window, shattering it.

"The victims had cuts to their faces and saw the accused running off."

His defence agent told the court that her client took no opposition to what was described by the prosecution.

"The address is where his late daughter was found," she said.

"Grief and alcohol is perhaps to blame for what happened here. Mr Russell is currently living in accommodation and receiving support from a veterans charity."

Sheriff Derek Reekie told Russell: "I understand the unfortunate circumstances but it is no way to deal with it.

"There is clearly drink involved here but you do have support from veterans services."

Russell was ordered to pay a £400 fine.
