A DUNFERMLINE man has been jailed after ignoring a driving ban to visit his mother’s home.

Dean Fyall, 27, of Macbeth Road, appeared from custody at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on July 21 in Shields Road, Garvock Bank and Abel Place, he drove while disqualified and without insurance.

Depute fiscal Dev Kapadia said: “Shortly after 10pm on Saturday officers took an interest in the accused’s vehicle.

“They wanted to speak to him but the accused accelerated away from them. They followed him and he stopped in Abel Place and left the vehicle,” added the depute.

The police officers stopped him as he walked away and inquiries revealed he was a banned driver.

Defence solicitor Stephen Morrison admitted his client had an “unenviable record” which included one analogous conviction.

He had “panicked” after receiving a phone call from his mother and “jumped in his vehicle” even though he only lived about a mile away from her.

“He didn’t apply his mind to the alternatives. He had purchased the vehicle two months ago and had a plan to apply for licence back early,” added Mr Morrison.

Sheriff John Rafferty told Fyall it was his second offence of driving while disqualified and he had previously served a custodial sentence for it.

He jailed Fyall for eight months and imposed a new driving ban for 20 months.
