Police have confirmed that they are investigating a serious sexual assault that took place in Dunfermline at the weekend.
Officers are providing specialist support to the female victim following the incident that took place in the early hours of Sunday morning in the Nethertown Broad Street / Moodie Street area.
Local residents said police were present in the area yesterday and parts were cordoned off.
Police are now appealing for the public's help.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police in Fife are investigating a serious sexual assault which happened during the early hours on Sunday 6th August in the Nethertown Broad Street/Moodie Street area of Dunfermline. Officers are providing specialist support to the female victim.
"Enquiries are at an early stage and anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident 1074 of Sunday 6th August or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
