Scouting is so popular in West Fife that the organisation is looking to open a brand new group to support the ever expanding eastern expansion in Dunfermline.

Record numbers of young people are Scouts with huge waiting lists of eager youngsters wanting to join, even though almost every town, village and local community has a local branch.

The new Scout group will serve the communities of Duloch, Crossgates and Hillend where demand is high.

However, this is only made possible by talented teams of local volunteers.

This summer, volunteers have supported more than 150 young people from West Fife to share in a life-changing adventure with fellow Scouts from across Europe.

Rosyth District Scouts travelled to Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Northern Ireland, while Dunfermline District have hosted Scouts from Germany and Belgium.

Activities have included; hiking, climbing, mountain biking, camping, travelling, sharing stories and making memories.

Ryan, 17, said: "It was an absolutely fantastic experience and one I won't soon forget. It was really cool to meet scouts from all over the world and see their method of scouting."

Charlotte, 17, added: "The whole atmosphere, community spirit and friendliness of everyone was incredible."

Woodside Explorer Scout Unit, from Rosyth, have just returned from the Spejdernes Lejr Jamboree in Denmark spending a week living alongside 40,000 scouts.

The group was hosted by a Scout branch from Stilling in Denmark. From camping alongside each other, cooking and taking part in activities, they were able to learn a great deal about each other's way of life.

Oscar, from Stilling, said: "The first days camping were difficult because we were speaking different languages but we have become good friends now."
