DALMATIONS, prisoners and princesses were only some of the characters to be spotted in Valleyfield on Saturday.

The rain stayed off to help the annual Children's Gala go off with a swing with the traditional parade being followed by an array of fun and entertainment.

Gala committee treasurer Jade Hume declared the day a great success.

"We had a really good day and a brilliant turn out," she said. "We are really proud of all the kids that go to the youth clubs as they did all the decorations for the floats.

"It was raining in the morning but the rain had stopped by the time the parade was starting and it didn't come on again until after everything was finished."

As well as a float containing two kickboxing world champions, the local toddler group dresses as characters from 101 Dalmatians while youngsters from the youth centre gave their vehicle a prison and army theme.

With this year's spectacular now out of the way, Jade said they will soon be looking at what to do for their 2018 event.

"We have a meeting next week and we will sit down and work out what worked and what we can do for next year and we will have to start fundraising for next year as well," she added. "It is an expensive event but it is so worth it. There is lots of fundraising throughout the year.

"We are always trying to think of new fundraising events do if anyone wants to help, they are very welcome and can contact us through our Facebook page or speak to a member of the committee."
