Not content with just a day, the communities of Limekilns, Charlestown and Pattiesmuir have been enjoying a whole week of gala fun.

There was something for every age and interest with a fancy dress competition and disco to wine tasting and guided historic walks.

Ken Hendrie, Gala secretary, said: "Everything went really well. The sun shone for most of the day so we were very grateful for good weather for a change!

"There wasn't a parade but a culmination of a week of events. All events are free raised from fundraisers throughout the year.

"We have to rely on the generosity of the villagers but they’ve never let us down.

"All in all, it was a great week for the community."

In a mid-afternoon spot check on Saturday the committee counted over 500 people enjoying the bags of activities on offer.

A host of entertainers and artists were demonstrating their talents with juggling to pottery, you could go pony riding, enjoy a massage or get stuck into some good old fashioned schools races, with the tug of war looking very competitive.

A stage looking the part with hay bales, provided the perfect platform for musicians, dancers and performing troupes to entertain the audience throughout the day.

Ken added: "Hopefully, it was an afternoon of activities enjoyed by the whole community."
