SOME harsh observers may tell you that supping a pint may be advisable before settling down to watch the Pars.

Whilst it may help any nerves before the big match – and with what may happen on the pitch – Athletic supporters can now enjoy a pre or post-match Pars pint that raises a glass to heroes of yesteryear who had them toasting one of the club's finest hours.

In partnership with brewing giant Belhaven, the football club have added a new signing to their line-up in East End Park's bars in the shape of a special craft beer in honour of the legends of 1968.

The 1968 IPA has been brewed for the football club as part of celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of Dunfermline's second – and so far last – Scottish Cup triumph, which will fall at the end of this season.

The Pars defeated Hearts 3-1 at Hampden to bring the famous trophy back to West Fife and Roy Barry, who captained the team on that momentous day, said: "This is a fantastic initiative from the club and sponsors, Belhaven. The Lap of Honour campaign has been brilliant to date, and it’s great to see fans of all ages taking interest in what we achieved in 1968.

"After trying the beer out, l am sure it’ll be a winner with our supporters!"

Simeon Stewart, sales development manager from Belhaven, commented: "It’s exciting times at Dunfermline Athletic and we are pleased to announce the launch of their Limited Edition Draught 1968 I.P.A.

"This is a refreshing and beautiful styled IPA with a citrus, floral and spicy notes; it has a mellow, tropical flour.

"We hope that all the supporters and visitors to East End Park enjoy a pint of this exciting IPA, and we would like to wish all at DAFC all the very best for this coming season."

The beer, which was launched by Barry, fellow cup winners Bert Paton and Alex Edwards and current captain Callum Morris, will be available throughout the season in Legends and Charlie Ds at East End, and is priced at £3.50 per pint.

The club have confirmed that Charlie Ds will be the home for the Former Players' Association on matchdays, where supporters can meet their heroes from the past.
