COULD there be a large wild cat roaming the fields of West Fife?

Rosyth woman Sabrina Mahmood posted three videos on Facebook showing a dark-coloured animal prowling a field near Alexander Place on Sunday evening.

Sabrina was sitting in her living room at the time when she saw the animal in the distance around 8.00pm.

She told the Press: "I just thought, 'Oh my god, what is that?'

"I was a wee bit scared.

"It was pure black and looked to be five times the size of a domestic house cat.

"I know that big cats had been seen elsewhere before in Kelty, but never in Rosyth."

The SSPCA said that the chances of encountering such an animal in the area is 'extremely rare'.

Scottish SPCA Chief Superintendent, Mike Flynn, said: "We have, over the years, received enquiries from members of the public regarding big cats, but there is very limited evidence to support the argument that big cats do exist in Scotland.

"We are not aware of any member of the public being approached or attacked by a big cat and we have never directly witnessed or been involved in any incidents involving big cats.

"Until such time that the existence of big cats is established, we can only advise that the likelihood of coming across such an animal is extremely rare."
